What is Pokemon Elite Redux?
Pokemon Elite Redux is a fan-made, not-for-profit ROM hack of Pokemon Emerald created by developer Darky. It is specifically designed for players who love strategic battling and team-building without the grind, turning the familiar Hoenn journey into a far more challenging adventure.
The fans are loving Pokemon Elite Redux becasues of its unique features like the multi-ability system– every Pokemon can effectively have multiple active abilities at once (up to four simultaneous abilities), enabling completely new battle strategies. The game also includes brand new forms (called as Redux forms), tons of fresh New Mega Evolutions, and many quality-of-life upgrades that make it fun and easy to play again and again.
There are also different difficulty levels, an advanced DexNav, updated graphics, and modern menus. Overall, it turns Emerald into a whole new experience packed with exciting and up-to-date features.
Story Overview
Pokemon Elite Redux’s story generally follows Pokemon Emerald’s Hoenn plot, but with new twists. You still begin in Rustboro City (saving a Wingull carrying Devon parts) and then proceed to challenge the Gym Leaders and thwart Team Magma/Aqua. However, many of the “slow” sections have been cut or condensed, the hack “skips most of the boring parts of the Hoenn region” – so you move rapidly from one major battle to the next. New characters and events are added to spice things up (for example, special “Legendary Sage” NPCs appear to give hints about powerful Pokemon you can catch). In short, the core journey (badge quests, Elite Four, etc.) remains the same, but it’s presented in a more streamlined way with extra lore and tougher fights to keep veteran players engaged.
Key Features
1. All Pokemon from Generations 1 to 9
This game includes almost every Pokemon from Gen 1 to Gen 9, even those from DLC content. All legendary, mythical, pseudo-legendary, popular, and lesser-known Pokemon are available for you to catch, train, and build your dream team.
2. All Regional Forms Included
Pokemon with special regional forms—like Hisuian, Alolan, and Galarian versions—are all included. You can enjoy using many unique versions of your favorite Pokemon.
3. Choose from 72 Starter Pokemon
You can choose your first Pokemon from a huge selection of 72 starters, including all starters from Gen 1 to 9, plus 3 extra starters for each of 15 different types. Be sure to pick carefully—there are a lot of great options!
4. New Mega Evolutions
Over 40 brand-new Mega Evolutions have been added to the game, along with all the official ones. These fan-made Mega forms come with new sprites, balanced stats, and exciting movesets. A must-see for any fan!
5. Brand-New Redux Forms
More than 60 Pokemon have special “Redux Forms”, which are custom versions with new designs, evolutions, and even Mega Evolutions. These fresh takes on existing Pokemon add a fun twist to the gameplay.
6. Advanced DexNav+ System
The upgraded DexNav+ shows all nearby Pokemon, even the ones you haven’t encountered yet. You can find and catch them with just a click—or use an auto-catch feature to fill your Pokedex even faster.
7. Up to 4 Abilities Per Pokemon

- Ace Mode: Same rules as Easy, but enemy trainers now use custom EVs. A sleep clause is added (only one Pokemon can be asleep at a time).
- Elite Mode: Harder boss fights like Gym Leaders and the Pokemon League. You also need to unlock some abilities by beating the first 2 gyms.
10. Quality of Life (QoL) Features
Many helpful features make the game smoother and more fun:
